Vaccination for the Mumps

The vaccination for this is the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine. The MMR booster is required in all children, and is something adults need to check up on as well. Mumps is very painful and can sometimes lead to life-threatening encephalitis. There was a time when babies born were actually exposed to mumps, making them immune. Unfortunately, there is a middle ground, in the 1960s, which is unknown. MMR is actually covered by insurance and can bring you right up to date if you are not sure.

Vaccination for Chicken Pox

We know what you might be thinking. You are probably thinking that you already had this when you were a child. Well, this might be true for you but it is not true for everybody. If you are a woman and you are thinking about becoming pregnant then you need to get this vaccination. If you were to get the chicken pox then you might put your child at risk in the womb. This can lead to birth defects. The vaccination for this is Varivax.

Vaccination for Shingles

Shingles is just like the adult version of chicken pox. Unfortunately this is a lot worse then chicken pox and it can actually end up leading to postherpetic neuralgia, which is nerve damage. The vaccination for this is Zostava and can really decrease your vulnerability to this. If you are going to get this shot then get it before you turn 60, because that is when your health insurance company might not want to fork over the cash.
